| Hyped as a unique brewing innovation India dark ale is presumably an IPA with darkly roasted malt added. While New Amsterdam's IDA had about the same strong hoppiness and stiff alcohol content as an IPA that's where the similarities end. This dark brown and blood colored ale looks and behaves more like a porter than IPA with its burnt, sweet maltiness, thick mouthfeel, and smooth finish. A balanced, well-rounded taste, with flavorful caramel and coffee undertones. Perhaps New Amsterdam's finest moment. An interesting experiment, but it remains to be seen whether other brewers will follow suit. | |||||||||||
