The surprising aroma of coffee, with traces of maple, is foremost in the nose, followed by warm maltiness; a frothy head, tightly knit with small bubbles, sits on a slightly cloudy brownish-amber body. The character of this Rogue's taste is informed by the generous use of hops and soft, smooth malt, with floral underpinnings. Robustly flavorful, this medium bodied ale delivers a deftly balanced and well-executed performance, maintaining a savory bitterness throughout, accompanied by a tip of sourness, just enough to help lure one into the next swig; also a metallic taste in the last sips. Rogue's patented Pacman yeast lends to all its ales a distinctive feel, and the American Amber is definitely quite roguish in its appeal. |
