Red Hook Double Black Stout
This specialty brew is made with, as advertised, Starbucks coffee. As expected, serious coffee undertones spring forward as this full-bodied brew flows through the mouth, imparting a robust and agreeable bitterness which works fairly well in concert with the chocolate malt and high alcohol content, with a dry, deserving finish. Unfortunately this stout begins to lose its creamy consistency past the halfway mark, making for a somewhat disappointing finale. The use of Starbucks coffee as an additive is a bit gimicky, though mitigated by the fact that it's the same man responsible for both Starbucks and Red Hook. Overall Double Black Stout rates as a fine effort by the Red Hook Brewery.
