Saranac Black Forest

A brew review of the Saranac Black Forest by Saranac.

Overall Rating 6.6

Aroma (0-2) 1.2
Taste (0-5) 3.4
General Impression (0-2) 1.3

The body of this black beer is actually a very dark and heavy amber, topped by a robust head. The fragance is sweet, clean and malty, but subdued. Black Forest is a refreshing, medium-bodied dark lager that, lacking in hoppy bitterness, relies mainly on malt and caramel to give it its smooth, sweet character. Formerly available only on tap, Black Forest is a welcome addition to Saranac's expanding and diverse line of bottled brews. A good choice for beer drinkers whose tastes generally run towards lighter beers but are looking to try something a bit darker.
