This lager produces a billowing head of froth on the pour, though it dies all too abruptly, while the golden hue seems a bit washed-out and appears watery. The nose is made up primarily of a mix of flowers and hops; sweet and clean smelling. Heinekin is suprisingly lacking in character. Aside from a pleasant tangy dryness that passes over the tongue there's not much else to this beer. The mouthfeel is excessive light, and one wishes that perhaps there was more of a malty kick to help sustain this beer. More than three quarters of the way through this lager a lingering, unpleasant almost chalky, and sour aftertaste begins to develop in mouth and becomes annoying rather quickly. Heineken is the second most popular imported beer in the U.S., behind Corona, and it goes to show that quantity and quality are often found at opposite poles; this lager impresses only in its numbers. |
