Molson Ice pours a big white head of foam over it's washed-out golden colored body; the pungent, sweet perfume is a cloying mix of honey and malts. Heavy carbonation on the tongue quickly hides all but a slight initial sweetness, and some small measure of bitterness at the back of the tongue. For a lager this beer feels surprisingly thick in the mouth. The heavy alcohol content, 5.6% by volume, becomes evident very quickly. The queer taste imparted on the finish, however, is far from pleasant; both sickly sweet and sour at once. Ice beer was a trendy beer style whose time has come and gone. If one has no choice but drink this stuff, Molson Ice is best served-ice cold and in a frosted mug, so as to deaden the flavor of the syrupy malt, and and drunk quickly, as this beer gets worse the warmer it gets. |
