1997 North American Brewers Association Annual Beer CompetitionNorth American Brewers Association held their annual beer competition in June. Founded in late 1996, the NABA's mission is to secure beer's role in our society through the advancement of brewing quality and consumer education. Over thirty different American microbreweries took home medals in twenty-two categories.While Anheuser-Busch managed to secure two medals, and Coors an impressive three, clearly the day was carried by the micros. The biggest overall winner was The Deschutes Brewing Co., of Bend, Oregon, bringing in four medals, two gold and two silver. Also scoring impressively were the brews from Moylan's Brewing Co. Rogue Ales and The Boston Beer Co., both innovative pioneers, more than held their own against this broad range of contenders proving, once again, that their brews are among the very best.
