The Bukowski Tapes

A BarAmerica movie review of The Bukowski Tapes.

Bukowski (1987) Directed by Barbet Schroeder

A must see for any die-hard Bukowski fan, this remarkable 4 hour documentary paints an intimate portrait of both the man and the writer. Filmed around the same time as Barfly by Barbet Schroeder, The Bukowski Tapes feature him reading from his poetry, a guided tour of his old neighborhood, and lengthy interviews with Bukowski, continuously guzzling beer while relating anecdotes.

The L.A. Times called The Bukowski Tapes, "An outrageously stimulating and unnerving all-night drinking session with a gutter eloquent barroom philosopher...One of the most intimate, revealing and unsparing glimpses any film or video has ever given us of a writer's life and personality."
