Drunks

A BarAmerica movie review of Drunks.

Drunks

(1997) Richard Lewis, Faye Dunaway, Spaulding Grey, Amanda Plummer, Dianne Wiest, and Parker Posey Directed by Peter Cohen
Script by Gary Lennon

This story centers around a group of recovering alcoholics in AA sharing their stories with each other, trying to rebuild their broken lives "one day at a time." In the best dramatic role of his career Richard Lewis, as Jim, overcome by the death of his wife, desperately struggles to stay sober on the streets of Manhattan after turning his back on the group. A well-written, edgy, and honest film featuring excellent performances by an impressive cast of familiar faces.
