Wharf Rat at Camdon Yards
A showcase of the Wharf Rat at Camdon Yards in Baltimore, MD.
The Wharf Rat at Camdon Yards doesn't look much like a brewery. Upon first inspection in fact, you might think it was just another pub or beer bar, since the brewing machinery and vats aren't on display like in so many other brewpubs.
The immediate interior of the bar has the feel of an old English pub, dark polished wood and red brick, and long wooden benches across from the bar. There are a large number of taps to choose from including both the Wharf's own beers and a handful of other well chosen microbrews, both local and domestic. The walls are covered with memorabilia of bygone times and thousands of coasters and old beer cans and bottles.
Dividing the resturant from the bar is a room with a pool table and gift shop, where all sorts of wharf rat merchandise can be found.
The beers are plentiful for a brewpub with a capacity to churn out over 5,000 barrels produced by a Peter Austin brewing system that sets it apart from most breweries. They range from lighter ales to stouts with seasonals rounding out the collection. There are always a couple available at the hand pumped taps for purists.

Like most brewpubs The Wharf Rat features a restuarant that serves up burgers and salads offering patrons the choice of dining inside, or outside on the veranda.
Sadly though there was little wharf to be seen, as one might expect.
The Wharf Rat is a pleasant addition to the growing beer scene in Baltimore and gets high marks for both the quantity and quality of its brew. If you make the trip to the Wharf, be prepared to stay awhile and enjoy all that is has to offer, in terms of brew and the delightful atmosphere.
